Molibdenit (simbol mineral Mol)[4] adalah sebuah wujud mineral dari molibdenum disulfida. Teksturnya mirip grafit. Terkadang mineral ini terasa licin saat dipegang karena strukturnya, yang terbuat dari lembaran-lembaran molibdenum dan belerang. Kristalnya berbentuk heksagonal atau trigonal.[3]

Di alam, mineral ini biasanya muncul bersamaan dengan mineral lainnya seperti kuarsa atau pirit, dan dapat ditemukan di deposit-deposit disekujur tambang-tambang di Amerika Serikat selatan, terkususnya di New Mexico, Colorado, Utah dan Arizona. Molibdenit juga dapat ditemukan di Meksiko.

Renium juga dapat ditemukan di mineral ini. Mineral ini sangat mirip dengan grafit sehingga sangat untuk membedakannya dengan satu sama lain.
