Un compilador[1] ye un programa (u conchunto de programas) que traduz un programa escrito en un lenguache de programación enta unatro lenguache de programación, chenerando un programa equivalent. A sobén o segundo lenguache ye codigo de maquina, pero tamién puede estar simplament texto. Iste proceso de traducción se conoixe como compilación.

A razón prencipal ta querer usar un compilador ye querer traducir un programa d'un lenguache d'alto livel, enta atro lenguache de nivel inferior (tipicament lenguache de maquina). D'ista traza un programador puede disenyar un programa en un lenguache muito mas pareixiu a como pensa un ser humán, ta dimpués compilar-lo enta un programa mas maniable por un ordinador.
