Arorae (enantes conocíu como Arorai, Arurai, Islla Hope o Islla Hurd) ye un atolón coralín del grupu de les Islles Gilbert, pertenecientes a la República de Kiribati. Ta allugada cerca de la llinia ecuatorial nel océanu Pacíficu central.[2]

Xeografía

L'atolón tien un área de 9,5 km² y una población d'alredor de 1558 habitantes (1947)[1][3], de los cualos la mayoría son protestantes. Les aldegues más grandes de la islla son Roreti, Tamaroa y Taribo.

Arorae ye una islla coralina baxa y plana con forma allargada. Mide 9 km de llongura por 1 km d'anchu, tien un aerodromu.

Cultura

La cultura Arorae foi influyida más por Samoa que por otres de les Islles Gilbert. Esto ye porque misioneros de Samoa estableciéronse na islla y convirtieron a la población a la ilesia Protestante.
