Beta[1] ye'l nome de la lletra del alfabetu griegu (βῆτα); equival a /b/, soníu oclusivu llabial sonoru. Suel trescribise como b. El so nome provién del de la segunda lletra del alfabetu feniciu bēt. Como signu numbéricu representaba'l dos. En mayúscula val tamién pa designar al segundu cantu de la Ilíada d'Homeru y en minúscula el segundu de la Odisea.
