Datiscaceae ye una familia de plantes que contién dos especies nel so únicu xéneru Datisca. Otros xéneros, Octomeles y Tetrameles son agora clasificaos na familia Tetramelaceae. Son plantes yerbácees con fueyes alternes y pinaes.

Descripción

Son yerbes dioicas glabres perennifolias. Fueyes alternes, imparipinnaes. Flores en recímanos terminales o axilares que lleven recímanos entemecíos con fueyes simples. Les flores masculines: mota estremada en 3-4 (-5) lóbulos desiguales; pétalos ausentes; estames 8-12 (-25), filamentos curtios, anteres de dos celdes, membranosa, dehiscencia llonxitudinal. Les flores femenines: mota 3-8-lobuláu; pétalos ausentes; xinecéu inferior, 3-4 (-5)- sincárpico, con 3-4 (-5) parietal llibradures. Frutu una cápsula pedicelada, estrechamente oblongo, colgante, con 3-4 nervaduras (-5), cápsula coriácea, abertura na parte cimera ente los estilos. Granes numberoses, diminutes, exalbuminosa.

La hipótesis filoxenética más moderna del orde Cucurbitales y la so clasificación en families y xéneros puede ser atopada en Schaefer y Renner (2011[1]).

Les families más pequeñes de Cucurbitales como ésta tán descriptas en Kubitzki (2011[2]) y amás, no que concierne a los sos calteres floral y vexetativu, en Matthews y Endress (2004[3]) y en Zhang et al. (2006,[4] 2007[5]), y estos trabayos tamién son una puerta d'entrada escontra la vasta lliteratura morfolóxica d'eses families.

La familia describióse por Barthélemy Charles Joseph Dumortier y espublizóse en Analyse des Familles de Plantes 13, 14. 1829.[6]
