Delaware ye un estáu de los Estaos Xuníos. Asitiáu na rexón nororiental del país, llenda al sur y al oeste con Maryland, al noreste con Nueva Jersey y al norte con Pennsylvania. Toma'l so nome de Thomas West, tercer barón De la Warr, un noble inglés que foi'l primer gobernador colonial de Virxinia[1]

Delaware ocupa la fastera nororiental de la península de Delmarva y ye'l segundu estáu más pequeñu y el sestu menos pobláu del país. Divídese en trés condaos, que de norte a sur son New Castle, Kent y Sussex. Los dos caberos tienen sío, históricamente, d'economía básicamente agrícola, mentantu que'l primeru ta más industrializáu. Tien una estensión de 5.130 km² y una población estimada (U.S. Census Bureau, 2015) de 945.934 habitantes. La so capital ye Dover, y la ciudá más poblada Wilmington.

Primero de que la so costa fora esplorada por navegantes europeos nel sieglu XVI, el territoriu de Delaware taba habitáu pola tribu Lenape al norte y la Nanticoke al sur. Los primeros europeos qu'aportaron al territoriu foron comerciantes holandeses que fundaron, cerca de l'actual ciudá de Lewes, la factoría de Zwaanendael en 1631[2]. Delaware foi una de les trece colonies que participaron na Revolución Americana. Amás, l'estáu foi'l primeru en ratificar, el 7 d'avientu de 1787, la Constitución de los Estaos Xuníos, y de magar tien como alcuñu oficial "The First State" (El primer estáu).
