Dvin (n'armeniu: Դվին; en griegu: Δουσιος, Τισιον) yera una gran ciudá comercial, la capital d'Armenia nel Alta Edá Media. Les sos ruines tán asitiaes na provincia d'Ararat, cerca del pueblu del mesmu nome. Foi incluyida na llista del patrimoniu de la Humanidá de la UNESCO l'añu 1995.[1]

Foi construyida en 335 por Cosroes III d'Armenia, sobre les ruines d'un antiguu asentamientu y fortaleza del segundu mileniu e.C. Dende entós la ciudá convertirse na principal residencia de los reis armenios de la dinastía arsácida. Llegó a tener una población d'unos 100 000 habitantes, que se dedicaben a toa clase d'oficios y artes, artesaníes, comerciu, pesca, etc. El 13 de febreru del añu 863, un terremotu dexó un saldu de dellos miles de muertos.[2] Trenta años dempués, el 28 d'avientu del 893, un terremotu entá más devastador dexó un saldu de 70 000 muertos.[3]  En 1236, la ciudá foi dafechu destruyida polos mongoles.[4]

Nombre

Fuentes lliteraries antigües armenies cuasi siempres dan el nome de l'antigua ciudá de Dvin como Dwin o Duin. Autores posteriores favorecieron la denominación Dvin, que ye la forma más común emplegada na lliteratura académica.[5] La pallabra ye d'orixe pérsicu y significa la llomba.[6]
