    Hydrangeaceae ye una familia perteneciente al orde Cornales, con una amplia distribución n'Asia y América del Norte, y llocalmente n'Europa.

    La familia inclúi 17 xéneros, pero dalgunos botánicos estremen a la familia en dos, con siete xéneros separaos na familia Philadelphaceae.

    Los xéneros carauterizar poles fueyes opuestes y flores regulares, bisexuales con 4 pétalos (raramente 5-12). La fruta ye una cápsula o una baga que contién delles granes. Les granes tienen endospermu carnudu.

    Descripción

    Son arbustos, bejucos o yerbes rizomatusas; plantes hermafrodites. Fueyes opuestes, dacuando verticilaes o alternes, enteres, dentaes o llobaes; estípules ausentes. Inflorescencies en visos corimbiformes a paniculiformes, flores epíginas o dacuando hipóginas, mayormente actinomorfes, pero dacuando con dalgunos sépalos petaloides engrandaos nes flores marxinales; sépalos los 4–5 (–12), valvaos o inxeríos; pétalos 4–5 (–12), llibres, valvaos, inxeríos o convolutos; estames en doble numbero que los pétalos o más numberosos, filamentos llibres; xinecéu de 3–5 (–12) carpelos xuníos formando un ovariu plurilocular, 1–dellos óvulos, estilos llibres o cortamente xuníos na base; discu intrastaminal presente. Frutu una cápsula o baga; granes con embrión rectu y endosperma carnosu.[1]

    Xéneros

    El xéneru Pottingeria ye delles vegaes incluyíu en Hydrangeaceae, mientres otros la inluyen en Balanophoraceae, o la so propia familia Pottingeriaceae.
