Merops nubicus[2][3] ye una especie d'ave coraciforme de la familia de los merópidos que vive n'África.

Descripción

Mide 38 cm de llargor. El plumaxe ye predominantemente coloráu carmesí, cola corona y el gargüelu de color azul verdosu, y les mexelles, la grupa y la parte baxa del banduyu azul turquesa. Presenta un antifaz negru sobre los güeyos ya iris coloráu. Les plumes centrales de la cola son más llargues. El so picu ye negru, llargu y curvado escontra baxo.[4]

Distribución y hábitat

Atópase n'África tropical, principalmente al norte de la llinia ecuatorial, en pacionales arbolaos o con arbustos, humerales y árees cultivaes, per debaxo de los 2.500 m d'altitú.[4]

Reproducción

Añera en grandes colonies en turries arenoses, cerca de dalgún ríu. Utiliza'l so picu pa cavar llargos túneles horizontales de dos metros de llargu o más, onde pon 2 a 3 güevos.

Alimentación

Aliméntase d'abeyes y otros inseutos voladores. Vixila dende dalguna caña o al llombu de dalgún animal grande y repara los inseutos pa llanzase rápido a volar, prindar dalgunu y volver al so posaderu.[4]
