Merops pusillus[2] ye una especie d'ave coraciforme de la familia Meropidae, que s'atopa nel África subsaḥariana.

Hábitat

Vive n'en campos abiertos con arbustos, preferentemente cerca de l'agua.[3]

Descripción

Abeyerucu chicu nel Hann Prk de Dakar, Senegal.

Mide 15 a 15 cm de llargor. Presenta abondosa coloración, coles partes cimeres verdes; ceya azul aguamarina brillosa; banda ocular negra; gargüelu mariellu; gorguera negra azulada; parte cimera del pechu como baberu anaranxáu a ablondu o acoloratáu; partes inferiores ocracees a anteadas; les ales son de colores verde y castañal.[3]

Alimentación

Aliméntase d'inseutos, principalmente d'abeyes, aviespes y avispones, qu'atrapen nel aire en salíes dende una percha abierta. De cutiu caza dende sitios baxos a un metro o menos altor. Antes de comer la so presa, quíta-y l'aguiyón cutiendo repetidamente l'inseutu sobre una superficie dura.[3]

Reproducción

Vive en comunidá y dellos individuos pósense alliniaos na caña d'un árbol, pero añera en solitariu, construyendo un túnel nun bancu de sable o na lluriga d'un oricteropo. La fema pon de 4 a 6 güevos blancos esféricos. Tanto'l machu como la fema curien de los güevos.[3]
