El noddy (O.F. naudin[1]), Noddie, Nodde, ye un xuegu de cartes inglés del sieglu XVI antecesor del Cribbage. Ye'l xuegu de cartes más antiguu identificable con esta estructura de xuegu y pariente del xuegu de cartes más ellaboráu denomináu Costly Colours del sieglu XVIII. Xugar con un mazu estándar de 52 cartes de baraxa inglesa o baraxa francesa.

Historia

La más antigua referencia al Noddy en The Oxford English Dictionary remontar a 1589. La pallabra noddy, significa tontu o individuu simple, pero nel sentíu del xuegu solo fai referencia al caballeru del palu de trunfu que s'espón al empiezu del xuegu.

Una descripción bien interesante del xuegu esiste na obra The Academy of Armory, que Randle Holme escribió en 1688, onde s'esplica la forma de puntuar y terminoloxía.[2]

Cribbage ensin la caxa

En dalguna midida'l noddy asemeyar a "un Cribbage pequeñu ensin la caxa". Pero paecería que'l xuegu de noddy yera de contaje y que se trataba d'algamar un contaje de quince, ventiún o trenta y ún, tal como indiquen Shirley y Salton.
