Pyrolaceae agora incluyida na familia Ericaceae ye una familia de yerbes perennes, dacuando saprofíticas. Con fueyes xeneralmente verdes, simples, en roseta, dacuando alternes o opuestes, n'ocasiones amenorgaes a escames. Dotaes de flores hermafrodites, actinomorfes, pentámeras, dialipétales a llixeramente simpétalas na base, diplostemonas, con dos verticilos d'estames coles ant. ensin apéndices, hipoginas, xeneralmente solitaries (Moneses uniflora) o en recímanos (Orthilia secunda), xeneralmente sunidas. Frutos en cápsula loculicida. Conócense unes 35 especies, nes rexones templar y fríu del Hemisferiu Norte.
