La titánida Selene yera la divinidá griega qu'encarnaba a la Lluna. Según Hesíodu na so Teogonía yera fía de los titanes Hiperión y Tea, poro, titánida de segunda xeneración. Xunto a los sos hermanos Heliu, el Sol, y Eos, l'Aurora, gobernaban el día y la nueche y la tresición ente éstos.
Represéntasela como una moza con una medialluna na frente, la tiesta tapecida con un velu y una antorcha encesa na manu.
