La Z ye la vixesimocuarta lletra del abecedariu y del alfabetu asturianu y la decinuevena consonante. El so nome ye femenín: la zeda o zeta (pl. les zedes ó zetes). Fonema /θ/

Historia

La lletra Z remanez direutamente del alfabetu llatín o romanu, que lu toma del griegu pa trescribir la lletra dzeta ζ, que remanez del zai feniciu, col significáu d'arma n'araméu. La lletra z esistía antiguamente en llatín, pero na dómina del censor Apiu Claudiu, c. 312 e.C., desaniciose; tornó a introducise na metada del sieglu I e.C., pa poder representar el soníu "s sonoru" proveniente del llinguax griegu. Entós allugóse no cabero del alfabetu.
