    Amhareg yw iaith yr Amhariaid, grŵp ethnig mwyaf Ethiopia, ac iaith swyddogol y wlad honno. Mae hi'n iaith Semitaidd yn y teulu ieithyddol Affro-Asiaidd. Mae tua 27,000,000 o bobl yn siarad yr iaith, a'r rhan fwyaf ohonynt yn byw yn Ethiopia. Credir fod tua 7-15 miliwn o bobl eraill yn siarad Amhareg fel ail iaith a'r tu allan i Ethiopia. Mae rhai Rastaffariaid yn siarad yr iaith hefyd.

    Mae'r iaith Amhareg yn deillio o'r iaith Ethiopeg (Ge'ez), iaith litwrgaidd hynafol Eglwys Ethiopia. Er ei bod yn iaith Semitaidd o ran gramadeg mae'r Amhareg yn cynnwys nifer fawr o eiriau benthyg o'r ieithoedd Cwshitig brodorol a siaredid yn Ethiopia a rhannau o'r Swdan ac aradaloedd eraill yng Nghorn Affrica yn y gorffennol.
