Gofyn neu ddeisyfu ar rywun i roi yw cardota, cardoteiaeth, neu fegera. Gelwir un sydd yn cardota mewn man gyhoeddus er mwyn budd materol ei hunan yn gardotyn/cardotes, cardotwr/cardotwraig, neu'n feger/begeres. Maent yn cardota gan eu bod yn dlawd ac yn y mwyafrif helaeth o achosion yn ddigartref. Gwahaniaethir rhwng cardota a gweithgareddau megis deisyfu rhoddion elusennol, perfformio ar y strydoedd, a gwaith anffurfiol eraill ar y strydoedd.
