Sant o dde Cymru oedd Ilan (weithiau Ylan mewn ffynonellau hynafiaethol). Ni wyddom fawr dim am ei hanes ond credir iddo fyw yn Oes y Seintiau.
Cysylltir Ilan yn bennaf â phlwyf Eglwys Ilan, rhwng Pontypridd ac Ystrad Mynach. Cyfeirir at y plwyf yn Llyfr Llandaf wrth yr enw 'Merthyr Ilan'. Yn hanesyddol roedd y plwyf yn rhan o gantref Senghennydd yn yr Oesoedd Canol. Yma bu cartref Llywelyn Bren. Dywedir bod ysbrydion wedi aflonyddu ar godwyr yr eglwys gyntaf a bu rhaid iddynt ddewis safle arall am fod y celfi a'r cerrig yn cael eu symud dros nos.
Mae lleoedd eraill sy'n dwyn ei enw yn cynnwys Trefilan, Ceredigion, a Bod Ifan, Meirionnydd. Yn Llydaw enwir castell ar ôl y sant yn Brieg a cheir Coatilan ('Coed Ilan') gerllaw.
