Fe'i ganwyd yn Newark, New Jersey, yn fab i'r difyrrwr Daniel Levitch (1902–80).
Priododd Patti Palmer ym 1944; ysgarodd 1980. Priododd SanDee Pitnick ym 1983. Ei blant gyda Palmer oedd y cerddor Gary Lewis (ganwyd 31 Gorffennaf 1946), Scott Anthony Lewis (ganwyd 22 Chwefror 1956), Christopher Lewis (ganwyd Hydref 1957), Anthony Lewis (ganwyd Hydref 1959) a Joseph Lewis (1964–2009).
Bu farw yn ei gartref yn Las Vegas, Nevada.
