Magnelaeth

Gynnau mawr y fyddin, yn enwedig arfau pellgyrhaeddol, yw magnelaeth neu fagnelau sydd yn saethu ffrwydron rhyfel y tu hwnt i gyrhaeddiad drylliau'r troedfilwyr.[1] Mae magnelau o galibr mwy na'r mân-arfau y mae'r milwr unigol yn eu cario, ac yn cael eu cludo a'u tanio ar ryw fath o gerbyd neu fownt. Mae canonau, mortarau, a howitsers i gyd yn fathau o fagnelau.

Datblygwyd magnelaeth ar ei ffurf gyntefig, y "peiriannu rhyfel" neu "beiriannau gwarchae", yn yr Henfyd. Cynhyrchwyd y rheiny o bren, ac yn eu plith oedd y blif, yr onagr, a'r balista. Dyfeisiwyd y canon yn ystod yr Oesoedd Canol, â'r gallu i lansio teflynnau gyda grym powdwr gwn.
