Roedden nhw'n byw yn ystod yr epoc Pleistosen (Oes yr Iâ) rhwng tua 1.6 miliwn o flynyddoedd yn ôl a 10,000 o flynyddoedd yn ôl. Bu mamothiaid yn byw yng Nghymru ar un adeg. Cafwyd hyd i benglog mamoth yn ymyl sgerbwd coch Ogof Paviland yn ne Cymru yn 1823. Buasai wedi'i chladdu yno tua 29,000 o flynyddoedd yn ôl.
