Melun yw prifddinas département Seine-et-Marne yn région Île-de-France. Gyda pgoblogaeth o 37,835 yn 2007, hi yw trydydd dinas Seine-et-Marne o ran poblogaeth, ar ôl Chelles a Meaux.

Saif Melun 41 km i'r de-ddwyrain o ddinas Paris, ger afon Seine. Mae rhan o'r ddinas ar ynys yn y Seoune, yr île Saint-Étienne.

Ceir cogfnod o'r ddinas yn y cyfnod Galaidd fel Melodunum. Dyddia'r enw modern o'r 6g. Anrheithiwyd y ddinas gan y Llychlynwyr yn 845. Byddai'r brenhinoedd Capetaidd cynnar yn aros yn Melun yn aml, ac adeiladwyd castell yma. Daeth Abélard yma yn 1102, wedi iddo gael ei yrru o Baris. Yn 1420, cipiwyd y ddinas gan y Saeson a'r Bwrgwyniaid wedi gwarchae hir. O'r gwarchae yma y cafodd y ddinas ei harwyddair, Fida muris usque ad mures ("Ffyddlon i'r muriau hyd at lygod mawr", hynny yw, hyd at fwyta llygod mawr.)
