Ardal ar ochr ddeheuol y Môr Du yw Pontus (Groeg: Πόντος), yn awr yn Nhwrci.
Sefydlwyd Teyrnas Pontus gan Mithradates Ktistes tua 302 CC, yn y cyfnod yn dilyn marwolaeth Alecsander Fawr. Sefydlodd frenhinllin a barhaodd hyd 64 CC. Y mwyaf adnabyddus o'i brenhinoedd oedd Mithridates VI neu Mithradates Eupator, a elwir yn "Mithridates Fawr". Gorchfygwyd ef yn y diwedd gan y Rhufeiniaid dan Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus yn 64 CC. Unwyd rhan o'r deyrnas a Bithynia i greu talaith Pontus a Bithynia.
Yn 62 OC, gwnaed Pontus yn dalaith gan yr ymerawdwr Nero. Fe'i rhennnid yn dair rhan: Pontus Galatĭcus yn y gorllewin, P. Polemoniācus yn y canolbarth a P. Cappadocius yn y dwyrain, yn ffinio ar Cappadocia (Armenia Minor).
