At the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of Bukoba Rural District was 289,697, from 394,020 in 2002, and 340,800 in 1988.[1][2] The district area is 1,654 square kilometres (639 sq mi), with a population density of 175.2 square kilometres (67.6 sq mi)[3] There are 29 wards, 94 villages, and 515 suburbs in the district.[4]

Paved trunk road T4 from Mwanza to the Ugandan border passes through Bukoba Rural District.[5]
