After his first engagements in Hagen and Bielefeld, Wedekind was brought to the Deutsches Theater in Berlin by the artistic director Heinz Hilpert in 1935 (1935–1943) and began a career in the field of youthful hero tenors at the Danzig Opera and then at the Dresden State Opera.[2] After the war, he became senior director in Bonn from 1946 to 1950, built the theater in Münster, and headed the theater in Basel from 1954.[2]
In 1960, he took over the management of the city theater and later Saarland State Theatre in Saarbrücken.[3][4] He was artistic director at Festspiele Balver Höhle from 1983 to 1996.[5]
