The ferries are to be named in honour of Australians who have made significant achievements in the fields of science, environment, and innovation.[5] The first was delivered in March 2024.[6] The second, John Nutt, arrived in Sydney in early June, coinciding with the retirement of the RiverCat 'Evonne Goolagong'. John Nutt entered service unceremoniously on June 27th, 2024. The third, Isobel Bennet, is expected to arrive in September 2024 and should enter service in late September-early October pending further sea trials.
Unlike the River-class ferry fleet, the new vessels do not include a top deck.
