The newspaper originated in 1903 as the Stanwood Tidings. The name changed to the Stanwood News sometime between 1917–1920, and again to Twin City News in 1930.[2]
Cliff Danielson took over the paper from owners Ray Horn and Harry Dence in 1959 and changed the name back to the Stanwood News a year later. In 1980, the name was changed to Stanwood Camano News; two years later, the owner of the paper purchased the nearby Camano Island Sun.[2]
Dave Pinkham became the owner and publisher in 1985. He had previously worked as a reporter and then editor at the Whidbey News-Times. In 2009, Pinkham retired and the paper entered into a partnership with the Skagit Valley Herald to manage the Stanwood paper. The Stanwood Camano News maintained its office in Stanwood, but the printing of the paper was moved off site in June 2009 to The Herald's facility in Mount Vernon.[3]
