- Keizer Diocletianus onderdrukt een bloedige opstand in Alexandrië. Ter nagedachtenis hiervan laat hij in de stad een triomfzuil oprichten. De Bibliotheek van Alexandrië wordt door brand verwoest.
- Diocletianus sluit een vredesverdrag met de koninkrijken Aksum en Nubië.
