ChiWriter is een tekstverwerkingsprogramma voor MS-DOS dat door Cay Horstmann werd geschreven en in 1986 door hem uitgebracht werd. ChiWriter werd door Cay Horstmann ontwikkeld met als doel de gebruiker op een gebruiksvriendelijke wijze in staat te stellen wetenschappelijke en wiskundige formules in een document op te stellen.[1] ChiWriter was een van de eerste Wysiwyg-opmaakprogramma's. De tekst werd in monospace opgemaakt. De ontwikkeling van ChiWriter werd in 1995 stopgezet toen de Horstmann Software Development Corporation failliet ging.[2]
