Coldwave is een Franse variant van darkwave, gothic rock en postpunk. Het ontstond in Frankrijk en verspreidde zich naar Wallonië en Romandië.

Coldwave baseert zich vooral op de gothic-groepen Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division en The Cure.
