De ster staat ook bekend als Dubb en Ak; Dubb betekent in het Arabisch "Beer".

De buurt van Dubhe

Een halve graad ten westzuidwesten van Dubhe is het sterrenstelsel NGC 3471 te vinden. Iets meer dan een graad ten westzuidwesten de sterrenstelsels NGC 3435 en NGC 3407 met de quasar 4C+61.20. Een graad ten oostzuidoosten van Dubhe is het sterrenstelsel NGC 3543 te vinden. Anderhalve graad ten zuidoosten het stelsel NGC 3589.
