Grootendam of De Hoogedam is een buurtschap in de gemeente Sluis. De buurtschap ligt ten zuiden van de stad Oostburg en ten noorden van De Platluis. Grootendam ligt aan de Grotendam. Opvallend is dus dat de straatnaam met een o wordt geschreven, terwijl de plaatsnaam met 2 o's wordt geschreven. De buurtschap bestaat uit een veertigtal huizen. De kaarten vanaf 1913 noemen de buurtschap Grootendam.[1] De kaarten uit 1830-1850[1] en 1857[1] noemen de buurtschap echter De Hoogedam. De Grootendam verwijst naar de dam die destijds is aangelegd om de zeearm de Zwin af te dammen. Het Groote Gat ten oosten van de buurtschap herinnert nog aan deze zeearm.
