Hitzone is een serie verzamelalbums die in Nederland wordt uitgebracht door BMG, EMI, Jive, SMM, Universal, Warner, Virgin Records en Polygram.
Geschiedenis
De serie werd bedacht door de Nederlandse clipzender TMF. De naam van de serie is afgeleid van het gelijknamige televisieprogramma op die zender. Tijdens Hitzone werden de verschillende hitlijsten op de wereld behandeld.
De eerste Hitzone-cd verscheen in januari 1998 en was een vervolg op de More Hits Made Famous By The Music Factory-serie, waarvan er in 1997 vijf delen verschenen. Doordat voor de Hitzone-cd's verschillende platenmaatschappijen samenwerkten, konden de grootste hits van dat moment op één cd gezet worden. Dit viel in eerste instantie overigens erg tegen. Van de negentien liedjes op de eerste Hitzone-cd wisten slechts zes de Top 10 te bereiken. De naam werd bij deel twee veranderd in TMF Hitzone om zo meer naamsbekendheid te krijgen.
De eerste twintig edities werden door TMF uitgebracht, waarna Yorin FM (toen het programma Hitzone niet meer bestond) de nummers 21 t/m 29 uitgaf. Sinds Hitzone 30 maakt Radio 538 de serie.
Er verschijnen per jaar zo'n vier Hitzones (met uitzondering van 2000, 2006 en 2007 toen er vijf Hitzones uitgebracht werden). Daarnaast is er aan het eind van het jaar een Best Of-jaaroverzicht, met daarop vooral tracks van alle Hitzones uit dat jaar, maar ook een aantal nummers die er nog niet op stonden. In 2006 verscheen er, buiten de cd reeks om, ook een DVD met videoclips.
Op Hitzone Best Of 2000, Best Of 2001, Best Of Dance 2002 en Gold na, wisten alle Hitzone-cd's de nummer 1-positie te behalen. Het succesvolste album is tot nu toe TMF Hitzone 8, dat in 1999 een dubbelplatina status wist te behalen.
Bij Hitzone 25, de eerste jubileumuitgave, werd naast een cd, ook een dvd met videoclips uitgebracht. Sinds de 27e editie van Hitzone werd dit standaard dat er naast de cd ook de dvd met de gelijknamige videoclips bijgevoegd. Met Hitzone 44 stopt Hitzone na vier jaar met het uitbrengen van cd/dvd-albums en wordt er overgestapt naar dubbel-cd-albums (dit betreft de gewone edities, de Best Of-jaaroverzichten zijn al vanaf het begin uitgebracht op dubbel-cd). Dit door de verkoop van minder singles, waardoor er ook minder videoclips bij de liederen worden opgenomen. Een dubbel-cd-album geeft twee keer zoveel nieuwe muziek in je bezit, voor een gelijke prijs.
Ter gelegenheid van de vijftigste Hitzone werd op 3 juli 2009, samen met Hitzone 50, een speciale jubileumuitgave uitgegeven: Hitzone Gold. Hierop staan de beste tracks van de eerste 49 Hitzones. In het cd-boekje staat normaal per track de afbeelding van het album waar de desbetreffende track vanaf komt. Bij deze speciale jubileumuitgave staat in plaats daarvan een afbeelding van de Hitzone waarop de track eerder is verschenen.
Op 18 februari 2022 verscheen Hitzone 100. De eerste cd is gevuld met recente hits van artiesten als The Weeknd, MEAU en Maan. Op de tweede cd staan hits van de afgelopen vijfentwintig jaar. Dit is de laatste uitgave van de reguliere hitzone.[1]
