Laredo Sound

De Laredo Sound is een zeestraat in het zuidwesten van Brits-Columbia in Canada.

Geografie

De zeestraat heeft een lengte van ongeveer 31 kilometer en een breedte van tussen de 7,5 (halverwege) en 25 kilometer (aan de monding). Ten westen ligt Aristazabal Island, ten noorden Princess Royal Island en ten oosten Swindle Island en Price Island. De zeestraat mondt in het zuiden uit op de Hecate Strait met iets zuidelijker de Queen Charlotte Sound. Op de zeestraat komen meerdere wateren uit, waaronder de Laredo Channel in het noordwesten, de Laredo Inlet in het noorden, de Meyers Passage in het noordoosten en de Grant Anchorage (in het verlengde van de Higgins Passage).

De zeestraat ligt in de mariene ecoregio Noord-Amerikaans Pacifisch Fjordland.

Geschiedenis

In 1792 werd de Laredo Sound vernoemd door de Spaanse marineofficier Jacinto Caamaño, commandant van het fregat Aranzazu, waarschijnlijk naar de havenstad Laredo in Spanje.
