MetService

De Meteorological Service of New Zealand Limited, of kortweg MetService (Maori: Te Ratonga Tirorangi), is de nationale meteorologische dienst van Nieuw-Zeeland. MetService werd in 1992 opgericht als een staatsbedrijf. Het bedrijf telt ongeveer 300 medewerkers en het hoofdkantoor is gevestigd in Wellington. Voordat het een staatsbedrijf werd, bestond de nationale meteorologische dienst van Nieuw-Zeeland al in verschillende vormen sinds de benoeming van de eerste directeur van meteorologische stations in augustus 1861.

Als nationale meteorologische dienst van Nieuw-Zeeland produceert en publiceert MetService voorspellingen en officiële weerswaarschuwingen namens het Nieuw-Zeelandse Ministerie van Transport en is gecertificeerd door de Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand.

Internationale media-, luchtvaart- en energiegerelateerde activiteiten worden uitgevoerd onder de merknaam MetraWeather.

De MetService is tevens de gastorganisatie van een van de negen Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers die aan de luchtvaart advies geven ten aanzien van vulkanische as bij vulkaanuitbarstingen die de luchtvaart kunnen belemmeren.
