Microfoonarray
Een microfoonarray is een configuratie van meerdere microfoons die samen functioneren als één geïntegreerd systeem. Door de gecombineerde werking van de microfoons ontstaat een systeem met verbeterde eigenschappen ten opzichte van een enkele microfoon, zoals verhoogde richtinggevoeligheid of ruisonderdrukking.
Als men bijvoorbeeld een aantal microfoons boven elkaar plaatst in het verticale vlak, resulteert dit in een hogere bundelingsgraad (richtinggevoeligheid) dan in het horizontale vlak. Als iemand al sprekend van links naar rechts en van boven naar onder zou bewegen voor zo'n microfoonarray, dan klinkt de beweging van links naar rechts duidelijker dan van boven naar onder.
