Morris and Stone, later Morestone, was in de jaren 40 opgericht als een groothandel. Vanaf midden jaren 50 begon het eigen producten te maken.
Men begon in opdracht van olieproducent Esso een serie autootjes uit te geven om te concurreren met Lesney's Matchbox. De expertise kwam van een ex-oprichter van Lesney, Rodney Smith. Een fabriek werd opgezet in Hackney. Naast de Matchbox-schaal verkocht het ook producten in de schaal van Dinky Toys.
In 1961 werd Morestone overgenomen door S. Guiterman & Co., die de naam Morestone wijzigde in Budgie. In 1966 ging Guiterman failliet. Het bedrijf Modern Products maakte de gietmallen voor Morestone en nam de reeks auto's over en produceerde ze zelf tot 1969. De introductie van Hot Wheels noopte het bedrijf de productie van de auto's te stoppen. Sommige producten werden aangepast om verkocht te worden als souvenirs. Het bedrijf probeerde met zijn 1:43 (Dinky) schaalmodellen terug te komen in de jaren 80, maar dat mislukte.
