Nuclear Assault is een thrashmetalband uit New York. De band werd in 1984 opgericht toen Dan Lilker uit de band Anthrax werd gezet en op zoek ging naar een band waar hij agressievere muziek kon spelen. Hij richtte de band op samen met gitarist John Connelly, die ook kort bij Anthrax speelde. Gitarist Mike Bogush en drummer Scott Duboys speelden op de eerste twee demo's; later werden zij vervangen door respectievelijk Anthony Bramante en Glenn Evans.
