Poolzee
Een Poolzee of IJszee is een zee rond een van de beide polen van de Aarde. Dit zijn:
- de Noordelijke IJszee of Arctische Oceaan rond de noordpool (Arctis);
- de Zuidelijke Oceaan of Antarctisch Oceaan rond de zuidpool (Antarctis).
Vroeger werd gedacht dat er een open zee rondom de noordpool zou zijn, deze open poolzee-theorie vormde de aanleiding voor vele poolreizen, maar bleek uiteindelijk niet te kloppen.
