Raton is een plaats (city) in de Amerikaanse staat New Mexico, en valt bestuurlijk gezien onder Colfax County.
De stad heette oorspronkelijk Willow Springs en lag aan de Santa Fe Trail. In 1865 werd de stad door Richens Lacy Wootton aangesloten op de tolweg over Raton Pass. De Atchison, Topeka and Sante Fe Railway legde in 1878 over Raton Pass een spoorlijn aan vanaf Trinidad naar Raton. De stad kreeg een eigen station.[1]
Demografie
Bij de volkstelling in 2000 werd het aantal inwoners vastgesteld op 7282.[2] In 2006 is het aantal inwoners door het United States Census Bureau geschat op 6781,[3] een daling van 501 (-6,9%).

Volgens het United States Census Bureau beslaat de plaats een oppervlakte van 19,0 km², geheel bestaande uit land. Raton ligt op ongeveer 2036[4] m boven zeeniveau.
