Rocket Science ging op 19 januari 2007 in première op het Sundance Film Festival in de drama-competitie.[1]

Rocket Science was genomineerd voor drie Film Independent Spirit Awards, die voor beste eerste film, beste eerste scenario (Jeffrey Blitz) en beste vrouwelijke bijrol (Anna Kendrick). Op het Sundance Film Festival won Blitz de prijs voor "Beste regisseur - drama" en de film was er genomineerd voor de "Grote juryprijs - drama".[2] De trailer was genomineerd op de Golden Trailer Awards voor beste bioscoopreclame en beste muziek.[3]
