Ruscus (Muizendoorn) is een geslacht uit de aspergefamilie. De soorten komen voor in West-Europa, het Middellandse Zeegebied, Macaronesië, de Kaukasus en Iran.

Gebruik en toepassingen
Ruscus aculeatus, ook wel muizendoorn genoemd, wordt traditioneel gebruikt in de kruidengeneeskunde ter ondersteuning van de bloedcirculatie, met name bij vermoeide of zware benen. De wortelstok en bladeren bevatten saponinen en flavonoïden die verantwoordelijk worden geacht voor de effecten op de veneuze circulatie.
Kenmerken
Muizendoorn is een groenblijvende struik met stekelige bladeren en kleine bloemen die meestal in de winter verschijnen. De plant produceert bessen die zaden bevatten.
