SteamOS is een besturingssysteem voor de Steam Machine en de Steam Deck, dat is ontwikkeld door Valve Corporation. Deze software, gebaseerd op de Debian-distributie van Linux, is uitgebracht op 13 december 2013.
SteamOS is ontworpen om compatibel te zijn met een breed scala aan hardwareconfiguraties. Als een op Linux gebaseerd besturingssysteem heeft het de flexibiliteit die kenmerkend zijn voor opensourcesoftware. SteamOS maakt gebruik van de Big Picture-modus van de Steam-client, voor een console-achtige interface. Een opvallend kenmerk van SteamOS is het gebruik van zowel opensourcesoftware als enkele closed-source-onderdelen.
SteamOS is in de loop der jaren bijgewerkt voor betere hardwareondersteuning, prestaties en beveiliging. Ook werkte Valve samen met spelontwikkelaars voor een hogere compatibiliteit van spellen.
