Vertu is een in China gevestigde telefoonfabrikant die zich specialiseert in zeer dure mobiele telefoons.
Geschiedenis
Het bedrijf werd in 2002 als Vertu Ltd opgericht als dochteronderneming van Nokia. Het presenteerde mobiele telefoons als statussymbool, uitgevoerd in platina. Ze moesten zo'n 24.000 euro kosten. Aanvankelijk werden ze gemaakt in het Verenigd Koninkrijk.[1]
De telefoons waren afgeleid van Nokia-apparatuur en draaiden in het verleden op Symbian maar ook op Android. Ze werden gemaakt van dure en glimmende metalen, edelstenen en leer.
Nokia verkocht Vertu in juni 2012 aan investeerder EQT. Dit bedrijf wilde zich meer richten Android. Vertu is daarna enkele malen doorverkocht en werd in Hongkong gevestigd.
