Video Collection International

Video Collection International (VCI) was een in het Verenigd Koninkrijk gevestigd homevideobedrijf, opgericht in 1984 als The Video Collection.

Geschiedenis

Oorspronkelijk onderdeel van Prestwich Group, gevestigd in New Southgate, Londen, was het onderwerp van een managementovername onder leiding van Steve Ayres als CEO en Paddy Toomey (voorheen Woolworths) als algemeen directeur.[1] De visie voor Sell Through Video is geboren met het machtige bedrijf Woolworths dat de detailhandel leidt. Na in 1985 een onafhankelijk bedrijf te zijn geworden, werd The Video Collection de grootste homevideo-distributeur in het VK. Het had ook twee Europese divisies: Vídeo Colección, SA in Spanje, Vidéo Collection France in Frankrijk, evenals Strand VCI Entertainment (hernoemd Strand Home Video in 1992) in Noord-Amerika (verkocht in 1994 aan The Handleman Company). De The Video Collection werkte gewoonlijk samen met Britse televisiekanalen ITV en Channel 4 en verspreidde veel van hun titels uit hun franchises, zoals Thomas de stoomlocomotief. De The Video Collection beheerde ook het budgetlabel Cinema Club. Vanwege financiële moeilijkheden in 1995 werd het omgedoopt tot VCI. In 1999 werd het bedrijf verkocht aan de Kingfisher-groep.[2] Kingfisher splitste het bedrijf in juli 2001 op in Woolworths Group.[3] In 2004 fuseerde het met 2 Entertain, samen met BBC Video, daarom sloot VCI in 2005.[4][5]
