Distributed Computing Environment

Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) – oprogramowanie systemowe stworzone we wczesnych latach 90. na podstawie pracy Open Software Foundation (OSF), konsorcjum założonego w 1988 roku, którego członkami były m.in. przedsiębiorstwa: Apollo Computer[a], IBM i Digital Equipment Corporation[1][2].

DCE zapewniał platformę programistyczną oraz zestaw narzędzi do tworzenia aplikacji klient-serwer[2][3]. Platforma DCE zawiera[2][4]:

DCE nie osiągnął sukcesu komercyjnego.

W 1995 roku wszyscy główni producenci komputerów posiadali implementację DCE, które było postrzegane jako lepsze rozwiązanie w porównaniu do alternatywnych technologii takich jak CORBA, które miały bardziej ograniczone wsparcie[4].
