Rodzaj Licea utworzył Heinrich Adolf Schrader w 1797 r.[1] Nie wskazał gatunku typowego, ale zrobił to Martin w 1945 r.[1] Synonimy nazwy naukowej: Cylichnium Wallr., Hymenobolina Zukal, Hymenobolus Zukal, Kleistobolus C. Lippert, Licea subgen. Pleiomorpha Nann.-Bremek., Orcadella Wingate, Pleiomorpha (Nann.-Bremek.) Dhillon, Protoderma Rostaf., Protodermium Rostaf. ex Berl., Protodermodium Kuntze[2].
