Urodził się w hrabstwie Buckinghamshire[3]. Po ukończeniu Grammar School im. Sir Williama Borlase w Marlow, studiował aktorstwo w Central School of Speech and Drama. Debiutował na scenie i zagrał kilka ról szekspirowskich[4].
