TORCS (The Open Racing Car Simulator) – wieloplatformowy i dostępny na licencji open source trójwymiarowy symulator wyścigów samochodowych. TORCS został stworzony przez Erica Espié oraz Christophea Guionneau, lecz obecnie głównymi developerami są Bernhard Wymann i Christos Dimitrakakis. TORCS jest napisany w C++ i dostępny na licencji GNU GPL. Możliwa jest gra z wykorzystaniem klawiatury, myszy lub kierownicy.
Historia
Rozwój TORCS został zapoczątkowany w 1997 roku przez Erica Espié oraz Christophe Guionneau jako dwuwymiarowa gra o nazwie Racing Car Simulator (RCS). Kiedy Espié i Guionneau zaczęli używać karty 3dfx do rozwijania gry stworzyli pierwszą trójwymiarową wersję symulatora z użyciem OpenGL i zmienili nazwę projektu na Open Racing Car Simulator (ORCS).
Wczesne wersje ORCS nie zawierały samochodów z silnikiem, przez co był to symulator wyścigów w zjeździe. Gdy silniki oraz dźwięki silników zostały dodane nazwa została zmieniona na TORCS.
