The Eternal – szesnasty albumem studyjny, amerykańskiego zespołu rockowego Sonic Youth, wydany 9 czerwca 2009. Jest on pierwszym nagranym dla nowej wytwórni Matador Records. Płyta ukazała się w różnych wariantach: w "zwykłym" CD, na podwójnej płycie winylowej, w wersji do pobrania i w wydaniu na Buy Early Get Now z różnymi dodatkami[4].

Na okładce umieszczono obraz namalowany przez Johna Faheya[5]. The Eternal dedykowany jest, zmarłemu 6 stycznia 2009, gitarzyście Ronemu Ashetonowi.
