Auguri
Një augur ishte një prift dhe zyrtar në botën klasike romake. Roli i tij kryesor ishte praktika e ogurit: Interpretimi i vullnetit të perëndive duke studiuar fluturimin e zogjve - nëse ata ishin duke fluturuar në grup ose vetëm, çfarë zhurmash ata krijuan ndërsa fluturuan, drejtimi i fluturimit dhe çfarë lloj zogjsh ishin . Kjo njihej si "marrja e kujdesit".
Ceremonia dhe funksioni i augurit ishte thelbësore për çdo ndërmarrje kryesore në shoqërinë romake - publike ose private - përfshirë çështje të luftës, tregtisë dhe fesë. Augurët kërkuan vullnetin hyjnor në lidhje me çdo kurs të veprimit të propozuar që mund të ndikojë në pax, fortuna, dhe salus e Romës (paqe, fat të mirë dhe mirëqenie).[1]
